I interrupt this advent calendar to announce....

It's snowing! It's actually snowing!

In December! In softy-southerner Surrey!

Apologies for the unseemly excitement here but this is unheard of. I can't remember the last time it snowed before Christmas here or indeed anywhere south of about Oxford (which is the furthest north I've ever lived and where it did, while I was there in the 1980s, snow an awful lot from about October onwards).

This has to be the best chance of a real, bona fide, proper white Christmas in living memory. Right, that's it - I'm digging out the Frank Sinatra and the sleigh bells. Never mind all that pretending with robins perching on snowy fork'andles on Christmas cards and the like - we might, just, have the real thing just around the corner this year...

Harrumph! The only white thing we have around here at the moment is fog :(

Oh lucky you - just mizzly rain in the north west.

It's nice for a bit, but it's so cold and wet and icy! I'd prefer a proper blanket of snow.

If anyone wondered what an exotic garden looks like in the snow, it's both bizarre and messy...

Fingers crossed for a white Christmas though!

It settled here in London for a bit, but then turned to rain. More tonight, apparently.

Ms B - c'mon then, let's see 'em! we can do snowy one-up-manship...

Camilla - I've laid my bets already. Odds are shortening dramatically though so get into your local bookie soon....!

VP and Anna - it won't be long coming your way, don't worry...

Rob - I get a bit mournful about my exotics in weather like this. The loquat is holding on but you should see my Ricinus - the definition of defeat.

Victoria - it's melted back into the ground overnight here too but not enough to prevent the kids bombarding me with snowballs on the way to school this morning. It's bitterly cold today and my weather forecast says more snow on the way tomorrow.... looking good for Christmas!
